If I go to USMC OCS and graduate, is there additional training or school afterwards?

personnel training
Jill B asked:

Enlisted personnel goto school for training after boot depending on whatever they chose to pursue whether (i.e. aviation ordinance, aviation mechanic, matc, etc.) Do officers from OCS get placed wherever as instructors? I’m confused…

After OCS, or NROTC or Naval Academy, all Marine officers go to The Basic School (TBS) which is 26 weeks long and they are instructed on how to be a Marine Officer and given lessons on weapons, tactics and leadership. It’s like Marine Corps Combat training for enlisted but it is focused on tasks and knowledge a new LT would need to lead a platoon of Marines. You will spend most of your time in the field doing FEX’s (Field Exercises).

After TBS then you go on to your MOS school.

just like in the Army, after OBC, you then train in your specialty, ie: public affairs, finance, human resources, signal, medical, artillery, etc….. at your first assignment!

well in the Army they use something called a BOLC system. There are I beleive three(maybe 4 of them) BOLC I is ROTC. BOLC II is the Basic Officer Course, and BOLC III is the Branching school.

I beleive definatly for a fact the other branches have a similar system with differentt names.

onegater is right, after OCS you need to graduate from college and then receive your comission. Then you’ll go to The basic school in Quantico for 6 months. Just like for the enlisted side “every Marine is a rifleman,” every marine corps officer is trained to be an infantry officer. That’s what TBS is for. After that you’ll be trained in your MOS, that can vary widely from a few weeks to the aviation side, which my husband is doing, which has taken almost three years of additional training.
